The Cohoes Common Council cancels its Tuesday regular meeting due to Election Day. A special session is set for November 13 at 7 p.m. in city hall.
The $639,919 Waterford town budget for 1978 shows a $28,000 rise from 1977 but would not raise taxes, per Town Supervisor J. Richard Breen. The increase funds a $40,000 Columbus Avenue water main, $13,000 for public safety, and $5,600 for unemployment insurance, offset by reductions in highway and landfill appropriations. A public hearing is set for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Waterford town hall. The board also appointed Carl Walters to the board of assessment review and Russel Van Dervoort as deputy civil defense director.
Douglas Crawford, 37, named to the Waterford Halfmoon School Board to fill a vacancy left by John Dungan’s retirement. Crawford, a design engineer for Cluett Peabody, will serve until the May election and may seek a full term. Kenneth Varley was also considered for appointment.
The city will not collect garbage Tuesday due to the election. Residents are reminded there will be a collection day holiday on Wednesday for city employees and refuse collection returns to normal thereafter.
