Alaska's State Game Division tagged 31 polar bears this season for research. Bears were netted from a helicopter weighed, tranquilized, ear tagged, and fitted with bright nylon collars and leg tags before release unharmed.
Thirty-one organizations join with the Rensselaer County Medical Society to sponsor a public meeting on air pollution at the Troy Jewish Community Center on February 14 at 8 p.m. Dr. Vincent J. Schaefer of the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center will speak. Dr. Orville Henderson chairs.
Toronto AP reports accident research head Dr. Peter Boshwell predicts vivid car colors in the 1970s to boost visibility and cut collisions. Forecasts include fluorescent stripes, bright noses, flashy patterns such as animal skins like snakes tigers cougars and cheetahs.

Burlington voters rejected a tax increase for schoolteacher salaries, prompting teachers to boycott all Parent-Teacher Association meetings. The action reflects local tensions over funding for education and staff pay.
The Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center will sponsor a TUNES sale with Mrs Rudolph Amyot as chair. It will be at 1533 5th Ave Troy on Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations urged including jewelry toys clothing small furniture and household articles.

The combined sixth grades of Waterford Half Moon School visited the Institute of History and Art Institute as the final activity of their ancient Egypt study. Teachers Mrs Heroux Mrs Rogan Bruce Patnode Miss Joanna Damon and Miss Marjorie Kokanson accompanied the group.

The Youth Group of the First Baptist Church Stephentown will sponsor a Toys for Toys drive and repair damaged toys donated for needy children. Donations can be dropped Nov 4 and 18 at Sykes Store Stephentown Straits Corner Store Berlin or Wolcott's Variety Store New Lebanon. Taconic Valley Grange sells refreshments at the Grange Hall with coffee and doughnuts at 8 a.m. and soup, sandwiches, cakes, pies, coffee and soda throughout the day. A Dutch maid party for Taconic Valley Grange benefit will be held Thursday at Mrs Andrew Pease Home.
