Waterford Halfmoon High School invites parents to an open house starting at 7 15 p m on Thursday. Principal Robert A Whalen promotes parent participation in a typical school day across seven class periods with visits to homeroom and study hall and a social at 9 10 p m in the cafeteria.
The youth choir of the Federated Church comprising First Presbyterian and First Baptist will rehearse today at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church. Mrs Nancy O'Brien invites more boys ages 7 to 14 to join.
The Waterford Public Library will be closed all day Tuesday due to Election Day. Local residents are advised to plan library visits around the closure and use alternative civic facilities for registration and assistance.
Justice Timothy J. Fogarty granted a motion to dismiss in the Troy Police Court in the case of Patricia Fosmire, 19, of Hudson Falls charged with harassment after an arrest Monday by Officer William O. Gille at Ferry and Second Streets following a dispute over a parking issue.

The Waterford Republican Party will hold a public rally and motorcade today. James A. O Connor the GOP incumbent for Saratoga County District Attorney will be toastmaster. The motorcade forms at Grand Union Northside and tours the town. Local GOP candidates speak at p.m. in St Marys Hall followed by refreshments and dancing to Rhythm Makers.
Court St Monica of CDA will meet Monday at 8 15 p m in RK of C meeting rooms. Mrs June Cicchinelli grand regent rescheduled the meeting due to Election Day on Tuesday.
Attorneys for Albany Mayor Erastus Corning II moved for dismissal of the charge of driving while intoxicated. A state police lab test reportedly showed alcohol content too low for the arrest. The arrest occurred on the Albany Shaker Road while the mayor’s car was stopped.
In a ceremony at Rensselaer County Courthouse the City of Troy conveyed land from its former airport site to Regal Art Press of Troy Inc for a 15,000 plus square foot building. The 2 295 acre parcel sold for 4591 40, approved Sept 21 by Troy City Council. Construction could start within a week with Unit Span Building Supplies to supply materials. Henry A Kahn said plans include a one story facility awaiting deed signing. The project is part of broader airport site development by the Industrial Authority. Tourism and industry officials noted six other parties have shown interest in locating on the site.
Mrs Chester J Civin of Loudonville, a psychiatric social worker, is named supervisor of social services for Workshop Inc Milton Goldstein, executive director, announced. The workshop at Menands offers vocational rehabilitation for physically and mentally handicapped residents, supported by United Funds. Civin previously worked at Danvers State Hospital Hawthorne Mass as a psychiatric social worker and with New Hartford Central Schools. She also served as assistant director of research for the State Education Committee and Temporary Commission on the Need for the State University.
Whipple School PTA plans its third annual game and card party Thursday at 8 p.m. at Knickerbocker Junior High School chaired by Mrs. Charles Ellett. A wig show, refreshments, and prizes are planned with a committee of local parents handling decorations, packages, door prizes, bazaar tables, publicity, and refreshments.
Residents face a 1.47 to 3.03 increase in 1968 taxes depending on a proposed land sale to the town from the City of Troy. The Town Board unanimously approved the budget with Supervisor Richard Keeler noting potential $250,000 valuation impact if the sale is approved.
Emma Rose Flynn led a strong showing at the AAU Twirler meet in Schenectady. The junior twirl team of Dinardo, McGrath, Lemieux, and Prout won second place, with Toppers Dance and Twirl also taking second. Senior and junior duet awards went to Borden and Wagar, and Dinardo with McGrath, while solo finishers included Borden, McGrath, Dinardo, Griffin, Johnson, Spotten, and Ryan. The group plans an award banquet and aims for more competitions as the season continues.
About 440 workers at Consolidated Diesel Electric Co.’s Niskayuna and Scotia plants walked out with UAW Local 259. No details on issues or negotiations were given as the old contract expired at midnight Wednesday. The firm division of Condec Corp makes government contract special purpose vehicles. About 360 workers are affected at two Connecticut locations.
St Barbara's Chapter of the United Sisterhoods of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church elected officers led by President Julia Szaszkiewicz and Vice President Mary Kistan. The group took oaths at St Nicholas' Church during Divine Liturgy and plans a food sale at St Nicholas' Hall to fund church needs including vestments and altar cloths. Next meeting is Nov 9 at the church school.
Citizens Party critics charge Waterford Town Board has ignored a state health order to stop sewerage dumping into the Hudson and Mohawk. They say the health department seeks legal action to enforce the timetable and accuse the Citizens Party of causing taxpayer expense. Voters advised to vote Republican on Election Day November 7.
