Washington AP outlines how the draft would run under plans announced by President Nixon. Induction starts with 19 year olds first, random selection from a national pool after physical, mental and moral tests, with deferments ending for most students and many fathers while continuing for hardship cases and medical study. State health insurance plan rapped in Albany
Business and labor leaders attacked Governor Rockefeller's compulsory health insurance proposal. Raymond Corbett of the State AFL-CIO and John Roberts of the Empire State Chamber of Commerce called it a political device to shift Medicaid costs, urging instead Medicaid eligibility cuts and warning of windfall profits for insurers. The plan would require employers with more than two workers to buy private coverage, sharing costs, with hearings continuing in Buffalo and Syracuse.
