Secret sale of canal lands questioned by Cohoes alderman
Alderman Emma Shea testified before Justice Pennock that the city kept secret the Niagara Mohawk Power canal lands sale to Cohoes. She noted minutes show a 1965 purchase agreement, while the Sept meeting discussed an $80,000 sewer bond in canal beds. Shea and sister Esther Hoy filed a court action contending the sale should have been handled by the Common Council rather than the Board of Estimate and Allocation.
