The Welfare Ministry announced 1966 life expectancy in Japan rose to 68.35 years for men and 73.61 years for women. It noted gains of seven months for males and eight months for females from 1965 figures.
Police Chief Ronald L. Morrison reports William J. Slater of Troy paid a 25 dollar fine for speeding and received five days suspended in Rensselaer County Jail for not updating his operator license. Stephen M. Crandall of Troy drew 10 days in jail for public intoxication, 10 days for disorderly conduct and six months suspended sentence for resisting arrest, with one year probation from Police Justice Robert K. Shiland.

James H. Beaverson former schools superintendent and Athens College president in Pschico Greece will speak at tomorrow afternoon's Kiwanis Club gathering in the Baptist Church Hall. Howard E. Haynes to introduce the speaker. The chicken barbecue is set for Tuesday August 8 and a director's meeting is listed for Monday evening August 7.
White Creek hosts its 40th Old Home Day with a restored Jermain Church tour and a full day of events. An outdoor art show runs 9 to 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with works from local and regional artists. A Lansing Christman talk on Faith Ambition and Courage anchors the church program, followed by music by the McGeoch brothers and Miss Elizabeth Goodrich leading services. Luncheon in Jermain Hall runs noon to 2 p.m. with hall open to 5 p.m. A colonial kitchen display and genealogical exhibit enrich the day, plus a history quilt by Mrs. Arthur Bemis. Community volunteers organize the festival with Mrs. Howard Robinson as general chairman.
The Good Start program ends tomorrow for 250 enrolled children at Hoosick Falls Central School. Students toured Schaghticoke Fairgrounds and Story Town Lake George, with a box lunch provided. Teachers Agnes Smith and Calvin Pedersen were aided by Linda Zetela and Linda Zimmer. The program featured remedial reading and math, with enrichment for older students.
The Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club nine moved to second in the Interstate Baseball League by beating the North Bennington Lions 4-3 on Monday and shutting out the Bennington CYO 3-0 on Wednesday. They meet the Hoosick Falls Lions at 6 p.m. today at the Athletic Field.
