Fire hazards blamed for Columbia village blaze at X-Tyal plant

Former Philmont building inspector says he was fired in September for pressuring officials to enforce permits and safety rules at the Main Street X-Tyal rubber plant. Fire destroyed the factory, two apartments and three stores after hours of effort by 200 firefighters in near blizzard conditions.

Elks Host No Loser Super Bowl Stag Party

Hoosick Falls Lodge of Elks hosted its 6th annual Super Bowl Stag with Walter Wirmusky arranging. Patrons enjoyed color TV game viewing and a feast including clam chowder shish kebabs barbecue wings chili dogs kielbasa eggs cheese crackers beer and a full course steak dinner after the game.

Hoosick Falls approves OTB parlor amid opposition

The Hoosick Falls village board approved an Off-Track Betting Parlor with one dissenting vote after a letter from Edward Reutemann of the Capital District OTB highlighted interest in the 15 John Street site. Stephentown to host talk on old fashioned cooking
