Fire destroys rubber plant and homes in Philmont
In Philmont New York a rubber factory housing liferaft production was destroyed along with two apartment buildings and several shops after a blaze fueled by 30 mph winds. Firefighters struggled through near blizzard conditions chipping ice from hoses as 200 men battled flames for six hours. No serious injuries were reported and residents were evacuated to a nursing home during the fire.
