Van Vorst elected president of Rensselaer Business Association

James Van Vorst was elected president of the Rensselaer Business Association at a meeting at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Frank Viggiano became vice president, with Helen Gizzi, Joseph Gizzi, Tom Carney, Greg Burton, Robin Knox, Sandra Van Vorst and Paul Kane named to the board. The group discussed expanding outreach, a bulk mailing permit, a post office box, and a landfill contract with Cristo, noting no hours minimum and seeking a committee to review the landfill.

Fire damages home and cars in Rensselaer district

Rensselaer firefighters responded to a basement fire at 1609 Second Street Tuesday night causing smoke and water damage to the first and second floors. The blaze began around 8 20 p m in the basement from rubble left beside the house, with police stating the cause is under investigation.

Motorcyclist injured amid arrests and theft reports

A motorcyclist Michael J. Sanchez of 825 Fifth St. suffered minor injuries after a collision on East St. due to an oil spot. Patricia Thibeault of Averill Park RD 1 was fined 25 dollars after arraignment on a bad check charge. Stuart J. McNab of East Greenbush faces resisting arrest and criminal mischief charges after Friday arrest. Helen Conlin reported an attempted entry and damaged door latch. Robin Knox reported hub cap and tow chain thefts from two cars. Robert Pierce complained of stolen battery and alternator at Penn Central parking lot.

Castleton Fire Company barbecue planned for April 25

The Castleton Fire Company will hold its second annual barbecue on April 25 to raise funds for the building fund. Esquatak antique show in Nassau April 24 25

The Historical Society of Esquatak hosts an antique show and sale at the Donald P. Sutherland School in Nassau village. Hours are April 24 10 AM to 8 PM and April 25 1 PM to 5 PM with a $1.50 admission. Ben Clarkson tinsmith from Old Sturbridge Village will demonstrate tinwork in a tinhawkers wagon. Display dealers offer primitive country folk art furniture jewelry clocks oriental objects and pressed and art glass. The society serves Nassau Schodack, named from Schodack’s Indian origin, and runs historic seminars and preservation projects.

Kim Septer to be honored Outstanding Business Student 1976

Kim Septer daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Septer of Nassau has been named Outstanding Business Student for 1976 at Columbia High School. She will be honored with other area business students April 28 at the Business Education Day at Albany State University following nomination by Columbia faculty for achievement in business education service to school and class rank. Septer now works as a secretary for East Greenbush attorney Robert M Jacon.

Racing driver and wife charged in tax case

Albany. Thomas A. Corellis and his wife Donna Corellis of Clinton Heights pleaded innocent in federal court to two counts of income tax evasion and two counts of falsifying returns. They were released on their own recognizance. The indictment alleges no taxable income reported in 1969 and about 8600 less reported in 1970. Corellis, a prominent local racer, has won Lebanon Valley championships for five straight years and was pole-sitter at the Schaefer 100 in Syracuse.

Jeffries Re-elected Leader of Rensselaer Republicans

RENSSELAER Seventh Ward Alderman Lester Jeffries was reelected chairman of the Rensselaer City Republicans at a meeting of the city Republican committee. Other officers elected were Jack Ryan as vice chairman Robert Robertson as treasurer and Mary Scully as secretary. Jack Ryan and Etta Jukes are State committeemen.
