In Bennington Vermont Seymour R Brooks charged with rape of a 19 year old Hoosick Falls woman saw arraignment postponed due to a conflict of interest involving his counsel David S Putter public defender from Bennington County. Justice George N Fienberg approved dismissal of Putter and appointed a Windham County defender. A mandatory innocent plea was entered April 14 Brooks remains in Rutland Correctional Facility with 15000 dollar bail. He faces charges in Vermont including aggravated assault with a knife aiding in concealment of stolen property and fugitive from justice from New York.

Car fire destroys vehicle on Route 7 near Hoosick

James Brady of Stow Avenue in Troy reported a fire that started in the trunk of his 1970 Mercury at 3 30 p m on Route 7 in Potter Hill. Hoosick firefighters arrived to find the car fully involved, saving a nearby storage building on Walter Griffin’s property but the car was a total loss. A second brush fire behind the Darfler garage at Route 7 was quickly extinguished after the initial blaze.

Hoosick Grange Plans May Events And Spring Theme

Hoosick Falls Grange members held a spring themed meeting with readings by lecturer Mrs Wilfred Knapp and Bible quiz won by Mrs Mable Hewitt. Plans discussed include a May 1 bus trip to Montgomery County, a May 14 county exchange in Brunswick with a covered dish supper, and a May 26 junior band concert at the Grange.

Two Children Injured in Bennington Car Crash

In Bennington at Harwood Hill Road and Route 7 two children were injured in a two car collision. Teddy Garrison eight suffered head injuries and was transferred to Albany Medical Center before release. Wanda Garrison ten received facial bruises and was treated at Putnam Memorial Hospital. The crash was due to failure to use caution at the intersection. No arrests. investigation ongoing.

Hoosick Falls Scouts Camp at Lake George

Eight boys and two leaders from Boy Scout Troop 68 of Hoosick Falls camped three days at Camp Wakpominee on Lake George. Participants include Paul McMartin Calvin Watts Jason Keough Keffery Stevens Robert Stevens Fred Waite Seth Holbrook David Jones Michael Stempek and Richard Champney. Awards earned include citizenship in the community merit badge second class rank and several merit badges with plans for Knot and lashings instruction ahead of the May District Camporee near Greenwich on the Battenkill River.

West Hoosick Firefighters Contain Grass Fire Blazes

West Hoosick Fire Department battled a brush fire at the home of Anthony fed the weak fie in Hoosick Falls. The crew requested aid from Hoosick Falls Fire Department, which arrived after nine men were dispatched but the blaze was already under control. Cause undetermined. A second grass fire on Eddy Road later afternoon was blamed on uncontrolled burning on land owned by Stephen Griffing.

Fire destroys county garage on Route 67 north of Johnsonville

A mutual aid blaze at the Rensselaer County highway department garage on Route 67 near Johnsonville caused total loss. At least five firefighters were injured when a gas tank exploded during the fire, which started about 8 30 p m. Fire units from Johnsville Buskirk Valley Falls and West Hoosick cooperated under Johnsonville Fire Chief Brian Warren as investigators search for the cause.

Hoosick Falls group proposes curfew and fines to curb underage drinking
