Tenandeho Canoe Races Draw 15000 In Action Packed Sunday

Water Derby weekend on Tenandeho Creek featured 200 craft racing along from Coons Crossing to the Hudson. In the main two man open division Bill Moniz and Phil Peacock repeated their 1975 win in 34 58 for the four and a half mile course. Various other divisions crowned winners including a tub race by Jeff Overacker and Bob Bayly and a barrel craft by Mark and Matt Anatriello. The event drew about 15 000 spectators and 500 entrants across 250 plus crafts.

New Rescue Vehicle Activated by Hoosick Falls Squad

The Hoosick Falls Town Rescue Squad began operation of its new yellow and white rescue vehicle this weekend after nine months of fund raising totaling 33000 dollars. The truck carries Hurst Power Tools for rapid extrication and all squad members will take a three hour certifying course. The unit replaces a 1964 truck that was totaled weeks earlier.

Woman 74 Retires From Tenandeho Creek Canoe Race After Son Injured

Mechanicville resident Sarah Prindle, 74, failed to finish the Tenandeho Creek race as her 39 year old partner Richard Prindle suffered injuries when the canoe hit a rock near an old railroad bridge. He was treated at Samaritan Hospital Troy and listed in satisfactory condition. Mrs. Prindle, who has paddled with her son for three years, said she has had enough of the Tenandeho but praised the sport's community.

Rensselaer police report multiple arrests across city

Rensselaer officers arrested Kenneth McNally on a drug charge and took Robert Schlotterer to court on disorderly conduct bail. John Mellen received a 15day jail sentence after a city court appearance. A warrant targeted Rosemary Van Voise for bad checks. Police recovered a stolen car and reported other vehicle thefts and property crimes in the area.

Fire damages garages behind 1485 Broadway in Rensselaer

Rensselaer police say several abandoned garages used for storage behind 1485 Broadway were damaged by a fire discovered at 7 24 p m Saturday. The buildings are owned by Anthony J Hill Inc. The fire was brought under control at 8 10 p m Saturday and the cause remained under investigation.
