Miss Valitha Ann Schnurstein and Henry C. Rogge were married Tuesday October 8 at 4 PM in the brides home read by Rev. E A Hanff in the presence of close relatives. Attendants were Mrs Raymond Downing as matron of honor and C Vern Dunahoo as best man. The couple plans a Chicago trip before settling in Oelwein.
Sunday October 1 marked the thirtieth wedding anniversary ofMr and Mrs H H Nevermann and the eighteenth of her sister Mrs H J Zacharias and husband of Oelwein. Open house for relatives and friends drew many from the city and vicinity with light refreshments served.
Bockhaus Bardels Post of the American Legion met for a regular meeting on Monday evening October 2 with seventeen members present. Following the business session officers were elected: Commander E G Michael vice commander Herman Kuhrt adjutant August Hesse finance officer Fred Ambrose chaplain L H Fink sergeant at arms Ed Rosenthal historian H L Pries and executive committee Ed Jahnke Albert Garland N R Ambrose Albert Barkknecht E H Stehn. The new officers will be installed with other county posts at a county meeting in Sumner on October 12.
Congregational church members held their annual homecoming on Sunday October 1 with morning afternoon and evening services. A noon picnic dinner for members and guests followed in the church basement. Rev William Hardcastle presided over afternoon events. Notable visitors included Mrs Anna Abel and family from Des Moines and several TriotpI residents and relatives from Waterloo Sumner Frederika and Sumner.
A birthday gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Boeckmann in the northwest part of town on September 28. Relatives and friends shared cards, conversations, and a luncheon after a pleasant evening. Attendees included Elmer Drape, Anna Ladage, Mary Schultz, John Moeller and family, William Schultz and family, H. T. Lau, Gustave Boeckmann, N. R. Ambrose and family, Hulda Dettmer, H. F. Schmidt, Ernest Schumacher and family, Louis Schwartz and family, Nick Schumacher, and Chris Meier and family from Siegel.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sievers observed their 20th wedding anniversary with a gathering of friends and relatives at their home northwest of Tripoli on Sunday, October 1. The occasion marked two decades of marriage for the couple.
Rock Rapids town officials arrange 10 o'clock siren blast Saturdays to deter late night merchant activity. Fire siren will sound at 10 PM to enforce closing hour.
Bremer county saw 246 unemployed register with the National Reemployment Service this week at Waverly and Tripoli offices. Waverly basement office logged 181 registrants, 94 on Saturday and 87 on Monday, while Tripoli Saturday registrations reached 65 from Tripoli and Sumner. Most registrants were Waverly residents with a few from Plainfield and Janesville. most were unskilled or with dependents. Applications will be classified by W. S. Chapman, and contractors for county public works will select labor from the list. Some may be called for grading work 93 southeast of Sumner in Fayette county this fall.
Mrs Mary Leverenz marked her 71st birthday Sunday October 1 at home with her son Harley and a gathering of neighbors and relatives. Guests for afternoon and supper included Matt Boesen Elston Kerr Waterloo and several Pichelman and Kuhrt families from Crane Creek and the city. Evening visitors added Ernad Kammeyer H H C Tegtmeier and William Schultz as guests enjoyed visiting and cards.

John B Gallager as receiver sues Dan G Stiles et al for 13960.78 in foreclosure. Case notes include parcel 80 acres in section 5 93-13.
Mr and Mrs E R Lindfield were guests in the Alwin Maurer home Sunday.
Rev V C Oltrogge, former pastor of Minonk First Baptist, accepted a call to Waverly and began duties on Oct 1 after moving into the parsonage. A Bremer county native and Denver area graduate, he previously served in Minoak Illinois and ran a Denver mission church before entering the ministry.
Mrs Anna Schnurstein wife of Edward Schnurstein of near Ionia died Monday October 2 at 7 30 pm in St Josephs hospital New Hampton after four weeks as a patient following an operation cause listed as embellism Funeral services set for Friday at 1 pm from the home then St Johns Evangelical church Douglas township burial at St Peters Evangelical cemetery Rev K Pfeiffer officiating Surviving are husband three sons Wilmer Melvin Rueben two sisters and several brothers and half siblings from Iowa Minnesota and Denver
The Royal Neighbor lodge met at their hall Tuesday evening with twenty members present. An initiation welcomed Mrs. Hulda Hesse as a new member. After business, hosts Mrs. Nora Gunsalus and Mrs. Clara Claus served lunch as the social portion of the evening.
The state highway commission awarded contracts for grading Highway 93 from Sumner southeast in Fayette county for 12.34 miles to T. L. Sears of Clear Lake at 38 148 dollars. C. H. and J. H. Russell of Waverly won 24 box culverts for 11 925 dollars. A paving contract for 6.23 miles on U S road 18 from No 59 east through Fredericksburg went to McKensie Brothers of Waterloo for 143 303 dollars. G H Doty was named resident engineer in charge of construction and will operate from Tripoli. Machinery use will be minimized to maximize jobs. A D Finch Fayette county engineer will handle registrations and aid in crew assignments. Completion expectations foresee no more than half of the 93 project finished this fall with the rest next spring.
Mrs. Wm. C. Kehe died Sunday at 8 15 in Denver after a stroke. Born December 31, 1858 in Johannesburg Germany she moved to America in 1885 and married William C. Kehe in Maxfield township. Surviving children include Will Henry Ernest Edwin Bertha Tillie. funeral at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Denver. Burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Walter Thompson of Sumner learned their son Guy Thompson a locomotive fireman died in an accident in Fort Wayne Indiana and relatives planned travel. Surviving relatives include the parents siblings Olive L Thompson and Lyle Ellison and Lester Thompson. Will Dahrkopf, father of Guy's wife, also left for Indiana.
The American Legion Auxiliary meets Tuesday evening October 10th at the Legion hall for the regular monthly session. After the business a joint installation of senior and junior officers will be conducted by installing officer Mrs Nels Debel past unit president. The gathering ends with refreshments and a social evening hosted by a committee.
H. O. LeSner and Harris were arrested after breaking into the Reith and Van Dorn restaurant near 4 a.m. They pried the back window and entered the basement by dropping eight feet then escaped using barrels. They dumped the stolen money in the river, were held for a hearing in Mayor Morey’s court, and pled guilty to larceny under $20, receiving 30 days in the county jail.
Harold McGuire 18 son of Mr and Mrs C C McGuire Belmond died at Mercy hospital after a two weeks illness of kidney infection He came to visit his sister Mrs H L Leslie and fell seriously ill prompting family to rush him to the hospital where his condition was found critical by the onset of the illness
Nona Simmons files for divorce in the November term on cruel and inhuman treatment and infidelity. She asks $200 temporary alimony and suit money, $1,500 permanent alimony, all household goods, and $50 monthly support. The couple married here on October 2, 1912.

Mrs Henry Cretzmeyer remains critically ill at her city home with heart trouble. Her children have been called home. sons Dr Char ley and Dr Frank, both of Emmetsburg and Algona, stayed to assist, then returned Monday. Nurse Mrs W L Lynes assists.
Thomas Bogan a long time city resident died at University Hospital Iowa City on Thursday from a complication of diseases after an illness. He is survived by his wife and two sons Lynn of Iowa Falls and Howard of this city. Mr. Bogan was a plasterer by trade for many years.
E N Ogbin of Plainfield was found guilty of using profane language in justice court before M M Kingsley. He was fined $25 and costs and appealed the conviction to the district court through his attorney.
The Waverly Rotary Club Community Service group asks the State Highway Commission to erect several white crosses at the corner of Highways 10 and 59 east of Waverly. They aim to honor about 12 people killed in recent years, noting crosses in other states have reduced accidents. Harry Bodecker retrieved a 5 pound 18 ounce pike, 26 inches long, from the Cedar River millrace.
