Lavera Biermann and Frank Wilkens were married Sunday at the Siegel church at 2. The bride wore white net over silk, a full length veil, and carried red roses. the groom wore a blue suit. Attendants were Laura Wilkens and Glen Biermann. The reception, at the Biermann home, hosted about thirty guests. The couple will reside on the Wilkens farm.
Secretary Wallace, returning to Des Moines, will meet Tuesday with Iowa farmers and a Federation of Iowa Farm Organizations committee to discuss handling corn and hogs under the farm act. He posed seven questions on taxes, funding, price effects, acreage reduction, and administration, urging farmer input. He warned no wheat shortage exists domestically, noting a 350 million bushel surplus and outlining 1934 acreage reduction plans.

Tripoli failed to contain Fairbank in a Cedar Valley league nine inning game Sunday afternoon. Fairbank won 4 to 1 with a key third inning producing two runs. Tripoli’s lone run came in the seventh on an error and two-base hit. Belknap and Meyers turned double plays while Kasemeier and Shepard fanned five and eight respectively. Umpire Cinema.
Readlyn defeated Shell Rock 6 to 5 after 11 innings in a Cedar Valley league baseball game. Franks tossed for Shell Rock Allowing nine hits while Ramige pitched for Readlyn with 11 hits allowed. Franks struck out 13 Ramige six. Shell Rock tied the game with three runs in the seventh and two in the ninth, but Readlyn pulled ahead in extra innings.
The Bremer county buttermakers unit convened at the Turner home in Bremer. Forty five attendees heard results from a butter scoring contest won by Paul Schroeder of Spring Fountain with 94.5. Turner and Behrens tied for second at 94. Local women’s judges led by Mrs Leon Qualley and Mrs C W Turner tied for first in the ladies contest. Leon Qualley won the men’s judging. Guests from Nashua Dunkerton Waterloo and Frederika attended.
A majority of Tripoli's business houses will close their doors for the entire day on Tuesday July 4. Garages will stay open part of the day, while pool halls restaurants and filling stations will remain open as usual. General stores will stay open Monday evening for convenience.
Mr and Mrs August Schneider from Waterloo were guests Friday at the home of Mr and Mrs P A Goodenbour.
The American Savings Bank is released from Senate File 111 and opens for unrestricted business. Half of deposits remain in a trust fund secured by equivalent liquid assets, with the other half reinvested in the reor ganized bank. Depositors may withdraw 50 percent of checking accounts and obtain new certificates of deposit and trust fund certificates.
Eighty seven Heise Tegtmeier relatives met at Waverly tourist park for their annual reunion. The oldest present was 68 year old Henry Haase and 6 month old Nathan Henry Heise. Attendees included numerous Haase,Tegtmeier,Fink,Lor in,Eichmann,Dettmerring,Wedde king, Becker, Helmut Heise and others, with hosts F C Hildebrandt and L H Fink.
The Biermann family held its first reunion on Sunday June 25 at the home of Mr and Mrs Carl Neuendorff in Douglas township. Fifty eight families attended with guests from Fredericksburg Waverly Tripoli and nearby. An orchestra of six high school students provided music and a Siegel team beat the locals 11 to 9 in a late game. A picnic lunch was served at noon and dinner at 6. Many relatives were listed by name and a group photo was taken.
A H Panzer and Company employees sort and pack a large quantity of hides for shipment this week. Mr Panzer recently sent out two carloads, and this week’s shipment will exceed four carloads totaling over 400000 pounds of hides from the two prior shipments.
The Fremont cemetery association will hold a meeting Friday afternoon June 30 at two o'clock at the home of Mrs. F. W. Hale. A good attendance is anticipated.
Harold Frese of Cedar Falls was a guest in the H J Frese home Monday, visiting family and sharing time in the residence.
County Attorney Fred Rewoldt and H W Bathke of Sumner have been recommended by Congressman A C Willford for attorney and appraiser posts with the Home Loan Bank Corporation in Bremer County. Names forwarded to Senator Louis Murphy for final certification. A county advisory board slate will be announced in a few days. attorney and appraiser to be paid on a fee basis.
The Bremer county board of supervisors discussed building a two story office center on courthouse grounds to house county offices now in Waverly. They seek 30 percent government aid for a $9,000 project and would use emergency funds for the remaining $6,300, aiming to end rental costs of $1,174 yearly. A public hearing will be held before action.
St. John's Evangelical church of Siegel in Douglas township will observe its annual mission festival on Sunday July 2. Morning service begins at 10 a.m. Rev. Theodore Thomas will preach the forenoon sermon. Afternoon services start at 2:30 p.m. speakers will be Rev. C Barth of Hampton and Rev. G H Krueger of Denver. An invitation is extended to all friends of St. John's congregation.
The Ernest Tiedt farm home three miles southeast of Readlyn was destroyed by fire around noon Monday. An explosion from a gasoline stove used in the basement for weekly laundry work started the blaze, which spread rapidly. Mrs. Tiedt had left the basement briefly and returned to find the building ablaze. The structure was insured.
Miss Irene Madden and Verne Heine were married at the Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua on Wednesday June 21. Rev William Kent led the ceremony with Mr and Mrs Martin Jensen of Hardy as attendants. The couple will reside in the city where Heine works for the county engineer. the bride previously taught school.
Mrs Rudolph Walther suffered a deep gash from elbow to shoulder after a plank gave way while she helped paper a room at the Will Miller farm home. She fell through a window, was rushed to Mercy hospital, and her arm was placed in a cast due to the seriousness of the injury.
Dr. R E Robinson came back last week from a two week vacation. He attended American Medical Association sessions in Milwaukee and a Chicago progress event. He also witnessed his son John receive a BA at Wisconsin and begin medical studies there. His other son Francis is studying medicine at Madison this summer.
To Study Embalming Mr. and Mrs. Robert Giles expect to leave Waverly July 2 for St. Louis where they will enroll in the Carpenter school of embalming. Six months study followed by a year of internship. Mrs. Giles former Iowa Public Service employee will be replaced by Miss Julia Christensen of Waterloo. Judge T. A. Beardsmore visited Waverly Monday and held a one day session. He heard matters postponed since March term including Lincoln Joint Stock Land Bank vs L. Clifton Myers. Leonard Raecker argued one side and R. Eldon Laird the other.
A new postal rule requires a two cent stamp for letters within the city and for Waverly routes causing business losses since last July as firms shifted to cheaper delivery. Leonard H. Raecker of the Waverly Rotary Club left for Boston Friday for the international convention with delegates from over 60 nations. He expects to return around July 3.
