The Town of Tripoli invites bids for a 1963 street improvement program covering 13 blocks. Work includes resealing with M-4 binder asphalt and pea gravel, dust control oil, and related driveway and drainage prep. Bids due by 8 p m Monday with completion by July 19 under engineers Bert B Hanson and Associates.
Water Hampton named new football and wrestling coach for Wapsie Valley after Arn N dt resigns. Hampton, SCI grad from Cedar Falls, will move to the district post graduation in August. he recently married and played heavyweight wrestling at SCI for three years.

The 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold C. Poock was celebrated Saturday in Readlyn with a 7 o'clock dinner for 55 guests hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Everding and David Poock. The couple were married June 16 1938 in Readlyn and have since lived there while working for Readlyn Telephone Co. Their children are Mrs. Vernon Everding and David.

Army Pvt Gene G. Henkle of Readlyn was assigned to the 4th Armored Division in Germany. A medical specialist in Headquarters and Company A of the 46th Medical Battalion, he entered service in December 1962 after graduating Readlyn High School in 1959 and working at Waterloo Valve Spring.
The Tripoli Cub Scouts host a ball game and potluck on Sunday June 23 at 5 30 p m at South Park. The event invites helpers and families to attend the community gathering with sports and food.
Tripoli announces its summer swimming program with two groups coordinated by Mrs. J. J Magnall. Group A swims Tuesdays and Thursdays for five weeks from June 25, 11:30 to 12:30, while Group B swims Fridays and Saturdays for five weeks from June 28, 11:30 to 12:30. Buses depart from Tripoli Grade School at 11 a.m. for each group, with town residents assigned to the Tuesday Thursday dates and Frederika rural, Tripoli rural, and Frederika registrants on the Friday Saturday dates.
Gov Harold Hughes will speak at the dedication of the conservation commission s fish hatchery at Spirit Lake on June 29 The facility handles production of eight to 100 million walleyes and northern pike for Iowa waters It will cut hatchery labor by one third to one half and allows room to expand capacity by about 25 percent if needed
Iowa Highway Patrol license examining team served 66 patrons at Tripoli Town Hall on Saturday morning. Of the licenses issued 61 were distributed as 9 new operators 37 operator renewals 10 chauffeur renewals 1 new chauffeur issue and 4 instruction permits. One written failure and four vehicle failures were recorded with no driving failures. The team will return to Tripoli July 20.

Bremer county records 275 girls enrolled across 21 4-H clubs for 1963 with clothing as this year s main project. Last year focused on home furnishings and 1964 will center on food and nutrition.

Faribault Minnesota awards mark the 105th anniversary commencement at Shattuck School. Richard Krueger son of L P Krueger of Dhahran and grandson of H W Krueger Tripoli led the ROTC band company to win best drilled and year long competitions. He received a plaque for outstanding ROTC leadership and the Buchanan trophy for greatest track improvement.
Kevin and Mike Kirchhoff of Mr and Mrs Jene Kirchhoff caught a 6 lb 10 oz walleye at Gilstad Lake near Black Duck Minnesota last week. The 27 inch fish, 14 inch circumference, was landed by Mike after Kevin hooked it, during a family vacation.
Readlyn Mutual Insurance Association officials from Readlyn will attend a Far Reinsurance Company meeting at Grinnell from June 24 to 26. Attendees include Ted M. Bair Oelwein secretary Gustav O Boeckmann Tripoli vice president Henry R Eggena Denver and Calvin W Hesse Dunkerton directors. More than 500 are expected for the three day campus event at Grinnell College and the Reinsurance Co location.
A teen dance for ages 13 to 19 is set for Saturday night at Tripoli Town Hall from 8 to 11. Dick Snyder of Charles City will be the disk jockey, and admission is 50 cents per person with a door prize to be awarded.
Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Krueger and Richard leave Tuesday for several days with Mr. and Mrs. Erik Erikson in Aurora Minnesota and will then return to Dhahran Saudi Arabia for their next assignment or duties.
Mrs. Harlan Estrem of Kenyon Minnesota formerly Colleen Kings bury was seriously ill with a heart ailment at a Faribault hospital the past week. As her condition permits she was to be transferred to Rochester Tuesday for further treatment.

Wayne Miller says subscribers can dial any seven digit number directly for station to station calls, avoiding an operator. To call long distance, dial 1, area code if different from 319, then the final four digits, and give the operator your phone number if asked. If wrong numbers occur, ask the answered city and dial the operator to avoid charges. No charges for unanswered or received operator help.
Sunday visitors at the Carl Kowalsky home in Cedar Rapids included Mr and Mrs Kenneth Halver and Diane. Mr and Mrs Harvey Kowalsky of Marion. and Mr and Mrs Dalton Kowalsky and family of La Porte City. The gathering celebrated the 48th wedding anniversary of Carl and wife and Teresa Kowalsky’s second birthday in La Porte City.
Army Sergeant Major Everett M. Bailey of Tripoli begins a SEATO ground defense exercise with IX Corps in Thailand from June 11 to 19. The DHANARAJATA drill tests SEATO defense plans, combined staff procedures, and air ground measures. Bailey, stationed on Okinawa, enlisted in 1945 and is a 1945 East Waterloo high school graduate.
Kenneth Sievers of Waterloo underwent knee surgery at Scholtz Memorial hospital on Friday. Mrs Lillian Sievers visited Friday and Saturday, and Johnny and Jaqueline Sievers returned home with her Saturday to visit.
Mr and Mrs Larry Cox relocate from Eldon Meier duplex to Oskaloosa where he will teach. Mr and Mrs Gerald Ingelbreht occupy the Coxs former apartment, formerly residing in Caroline Schnurstein residence.
Kenneth Nuss of Frederika son of Mr and Mrs E J Nuss has been offered a membership in the Associates in Honor program at Iowa State University Ames where he will attend this fall The program provides recognition and guidance to honor students Nuss was valedictorian of his year at Tripoli Community School
Marlyn Wayne Oltrogge, son of Clarence and Mrs. Oltrogge, joined 103 Iowa graduates admitted to the bar. Chief Justice Theodore Garfield swore in new lawyers at a Friday luncheon in Iowa Memorial Union, with 57 from SUI and 28 from Drake University among those passing.
Mrs. Paul Koepke, president of Acker Matthias Unit 653, announces Bonnie Griese, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Griese of Denver, has been chosen to attend Hawkeye Girls State. Bonnie, a Denver High School senior, will study at the State College of Iowa Cedar Falls campus this week and works at Clemons Cafe on Highway 63 during the summer.
Keith H. Holm, 18, of Tripoli, reports to the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois, on June 2 for two weeks of active Naval Reserve training as a seaman recruit. The program covers naval history, customs, ordnance, seamanship, damage control, first aid, swimming, survival, shipboard drills, and sentry duty, with exams and a vigorous fitness regime. Training ends June 15 before returning to his local unit.
Readlyn special notes that Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Lobeck will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a family dinner Friday evening June 21. Married June 26 1938 at the Little Brown Church Nashua they are parents of four children and five grandchildren. Lobeck owns Lobeck Construction.
Tripoli area adults may join six Tuesday evening sessions at Sumner swimming pool starting June 25. Glenn Wiebke, pool manager, says a registration list will be taken at the Tripoli Leader office by Severday, with no registration fee collected at sign up.
Tripoli Red Sox lost 7-0 to Allison in Cedar Valley league action on Sunday. Errors plagued the defense as Readlyn hosts Tripoli in the next league game, with Harken taking the loss and Everding finishing. The big frame came in the second when Allison scored four runs. Upcoming schedule lists Tripoli at Readlyn, Janesville at Greene, Denver at Allison, and Fredericksburg at Onen.
Mr and Mrs R J Bunger stayed with cousins Dr and Mrs Paul C Kehle in Waukesha Wis Sunday. They attended the ordination of Paul A Kehle son of Dr and Mrs Kehle at First United Church of Christ with Dr Kehle presiding. Paul A Kehle will serve as pastor at Campbellsport United Church of Christ. The Bungers returned home Monday evening.
Lawrence Scalise a 30 year old Des Moines Democrat lawyer was chosen unanimously by Iowa Liquor Control Commission to head a new enforcement division. He will earn 9000 dollars annually and starts work immediately though the law takes effect July 4. Scalise has practiced with Ray Fenton in Des Moines and was an unsuccessful candidate for attorney general.
Alwine Schroeder remains hospitalized at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. The report notes the ongoing medical care and condition following the event that led to hospitalization.
