Hog price outlook for summer 1969 in Iowa and U.S. markets
Extension economist Gene Futrell projects hog prices near late June levels with seasonal declines in late summer and autumn and a modest rise into winter. USDA data show 59 million hogs on U.S. farms on June 1, with heavier weights up and young pigs down, Iowa inventory at 15.3 million, and June-July farrowing plans up in most regions. Hog slaughter rose 17 percent in late spring, tempering price gains. June prices for 200–230 pound pigs averaged 20.75 to 22.00 per hundred, about 2 higher than prior month but below year earlier.
