Republican candidates will speak at a steak fry on Saturday July 13 at the Waverly Club from 6 30 to 9 30. Kathleen Frahm of Sumner Route 2 is named the first entry in the 1968 Bremer County Fair queen contest, daughter of the Arnold Frahms, a Sumner High student and Sumner Gazette employee. She is a 4-H star sponsored by Unified Dairy Herd Improvement Co-op and active in school activities. The 1967 pageant crowned Susan Carroll, now Miss Iowa. Funeral rites were held for Shirley Zimple in New Hampton.

Rural Sumner Man Receives Purple Heart in Vietnam
Army Specialist Four John A. Gitch of Sumner earned the Purple Heart for wounds received in action near Pleiku Vietnam. He is part of Company B 1st Battalion 4th Infantry Division 12th Infantry. Gitch joined in February 1967 and arrived overseas July 1967 after basic at Fort Bliss and service at Fort Polk. He is a 1965 Sumner High School graduate.
