Waterloo manager cites nationwide survey of 15 500 beneficiaries showing two thirds have little or no retirement income. Findings indicate only 40 percent of single beneficiaries or couples have $50 monthly or more after combining all sources. Many rely on earnings, relatives, or non cash support. 60 percent have little liquid assets.
The survey covered 15,500 beneficiaries from 1940 to 1950 across 510 field offices nationwide in cities towns villages and rural areas. Most beneficiaries relied on social security, with some wealthier individuals and couples holding assets of 50 000 or more and two over 1 million.
