Fire Destroys Large Barn on Loren Krueger Farm
A large 36 by 72 foot barn on the Loren Krueger farm seven miles west of Tripoli was destroyed by fire. Calves oats hay straw and machinery were lost. the blaze began Monday evening and was fought by Waverly and Tripoli fire departments with help from neighbors. Insurance will partially cover estimated losses above 15000 dollars as cleanup and rebuilding plans proceed.

Deadline Aug 2 for DMA election ballots return

Heat Wave Breaks as Cool North Winds Ease the Heat
After three scorching days with highs near 96 degrees, a cool north breeze lowered readings to 51, bringing relief in this area. July 25 to 27 stayed well into the 90s with a peak of 96, then a slight drop on Sunday and a 16 degree fall by Tuesday. Rain was scarce with under two tenths of an inch from two light showers, while crops look promising with oats nearly harvested and corn progressing rapidly. Sportsmen's Big Fish Fry Scheduled for August Str

Henry Skeries 73, of Tripoli and Denver, died after a stroke at Allen Memorial hospital. Funeral services were held at Matthias funeral home and St Peters Lutheran Church. A collision at highway 6 and 63 seven miles east of Grinnell killed Bruce Allen Hoppenworth, two and a half months old, as his parents Leslie Hoppenworth and Jean Moeller Hoppenworth suffered serious injuries. The truck driver Maynard Hauschild was unhurt. Bruce Allen’s funeral was held at Matthias funeral home in Denver with burial at Fairview cemetery.
