Curious Indian wood carving unveiled at Salem museum
An ancient dark wood sphere carved in bas relief depicts two scenes Heaven and Hades. Each hemisphere contains numerous figures. Hades shows fiery sea allegory and satanic imagery. The piece, found near a creek with a rider’s broken hoof, is exhibited in Stringtown and will soon be sent to the Smithsonian.
