A silvering solution forms a thin film on grass or metal by adding potassium cyanide to a strong silver nitrate solution to redissolve initial precipitate. Mix with Spanish whiting to create a thin paste and warm slightly before application. Zinc filings on copper or similar metals yield a more brilliant finish, washed off after coating.
