Agreement completed for Florence dam construction
Florence May 7 negotiations between United States Indian service officials land owners committee for the Florence Casa Grande valley and Water Users Association concluded with a satisfactory settlement. The Florence diversion dam and canal system will begin soon, affecting 35,000 acres of Indian land and 27,000 acres in the Florence Casa Grande valley. The plan includes a diversion dam on the Gila river, main and north side canals, with head gates and lateral branches, and allows active participation by private landowners under Interior Department supervision. The project aims to protect prior rights and distribute water as equitably as possible while enabling private lands to use project facilities under compensation terms.
