Illinois Veterans Bonus drives statewide vote push

The Illinois Veterans Bonus law would pay a cash bonus to veterans and service members if approved in the November fifth election. Governor Green urged passage, with near unanimous legislative support and endorsements from major veterans groups. The campaign stresses voting yes on a separate service recognition ballot to authorize bonus bonds.

Don’t Be Fooled By This Trick On the Bonus

Opponents claim taxes will rise if the bonus passes, but the plan funds itself with special taxes on cigarettes and race-track betting. State bonds include property tax provisions, though Illinois has not levied a state property tax in twelve years. Governor Green pledges no property tax to pay the bonds. Vote Yes on the Bonus and vote Republican for Congress to cut income taxes twenty percent.

A poem reflects on the tree with enduring beauty from spring to autumn. The speaker thanks nature for rain sun and dew and contemplates a future chance to sing of beauty. The verse questions adieu if praise fades and fears a forthcoming fortnight could release the tree’s bound locks.

Verdure changed and beauty lost at Nature port

The Artist and AH. A. Gossard guard the scene as a reflective verse references change. A social note mentions Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Noordhoff with Judith Linda and Margaret Noordhoff visiting Sunday in Camanche Iowa, with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Williams and daughter Judy.
