Noted Poem Teases Memory of Labor Across a Mountain
A commentator describes a scene where a boy aged 10 to 15 and a man in his 60s or 70s labor together hauling cord wood and shingles on a small mountain. The boy rests with a chain in hand while the elder chats, then, at age 74, the boy recalls the elder’s words. The passage contrasts youth and old age as the path up and down the mountain becomes a metaphor for memory, resilience, and acceptance.
