Letters From Mission Texas Describe Oil Crater Impact and Local Life
Nola and Roy write from Mission Texas in December 1936 about Bird Island trips, river floods, a huge oil crater near their area, a long lasting fireball plume, and the local fruit crop prospects. They note political views, community papers, relatives in Beaumont, and neighboring oil activity. A grapefruit grove near their home has been damaged by salt water and a dragline is eroding land as workers attempt to contain spills. Mrs Elmer Weber and Gayle visit Mt Carroll with C E Kearnaghan parents.
