Porter Herd Leads DHIA High Herds in September Dairy Report
The Car roll County Dairy Herd Improvement Association released August and September rankings. Stransdale Farm No. 1 Holsteins led August with 1086 pounds milk and 37.5 butterfat. Ward Weidman Holsteins ranked second. In September Porter herd of eight Purebred Brown Swiss won with 1017 pounds milk and 33.1 butterfat. Weidman fell to fourth. Five top herds and five top cows named.

Mrs Amos Snavely observed her eightieth birthday at home in Shannon on a Saturday. She and her husband have lived in Shannon 31 years after previously farming near the village. Born in Franklin County Pennsylvania she moved to Shannon 67 years ago. She married Amos Snavely on December 12, 1883. They have two sons Lurrey of Lanark and Jacob of Shannon, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

First Snow Of Season Falls Here On Sunday Evening
Northwestern Illinois residents saw the first snowstorm of the season Sunday night starting as rain then sleet before heavy snowfall. The Mt. Carroll weather records show this is the first October snow since 1926, with two tenths of an inch accumulating and a forecast of continuing cold likely resembling 1925 patterns.

Gravel progress on two mile road north of Argo-Fa
Mt Carroll township road commissioner Charles Neuschwanger says about half the two mile stretch north of Argo-Fa has been graveled with completion planned in two weeks subject to favorable weather. Hauling began last week as grading was done earlier. Four trucks haul gravel from the J Campbell farm half a mile southwest of Mt Carroll using 3000 to 4000 cubic yards for the 14 foot road.
