Pays Back Taxes With Bad Check Leads to Sentence
James Fellows 33 of Lanark Illinois appeared before Associate Circuit Judge Edward J Turnbaugh in Carroll County Circuit Court on Monday October 2 and was sentenced to one year at Vandalia State Farm if restitution is not made by October 23. The bad check was given to Carroll County Treasurer Howard Gorman to pay all back and current personal property taxes totaling 192 dollars. Gorman prefers restitution by means other than a check. The action stems from the county board of supervisors request to Treasurer Gorman to pursue full tax payment.
