Science Club launches Thomson Review subscription drive

Thomson High School Science Club led by Mr. Stephen Buehler plans a village wide push to sell new and renewal subscriptions to the Thomson Review. Lila Atherton coaches the process, packets will be handed out, and drives run Monday to Tuesday with profits split 50 percent on new sales and 25 percent on renewals.

Carroll County Fair Board Elects Officers

Carroll County Fair Board elected officers William Ritenour as president Larry Buffington as vice president Earl Wloodin as secretary and Vincent Busser as treasurer A safety mishap involving Michael E Grant 18 of Lanark Illinois occurred after a one car crash on Illinois Route 64 near Lanark no injuries but $1200 car damage. The board discussed entering a float in the August 9 1968 state fair celebration in Springdale and set August 5 10 for the fair dates with a January Springfield meeting planned for board representatives. E A Loos Roy Beck and Ralph Spanogle named to plan the annual dinner in December.

Father Harrison Keller Dies Suddenly in Crivitz

James Keller learned Friday of his father Harrison Keller's sudden death at his Crivitz home. Funeral and burial took place in Crivitz Wisconsin. James plans to return to his Thomson home this weekend after attending the services.

First Workshop on Public Affairs Well Attended

More than 70 people from six Northwestern Illinois counties attended the first of six public affairs workshops in Mount Carroll on October 3. County reports showed Carroll, Jo Daviess and Stephenson with county plans in progress while Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside had no comprehensive plans yet.

Career Night Planned For School Students

A county wide career night will be held at Mount Carroll High School on Tuesday evening October 17 starting at 730. Harold Brinkmeier Earl Gilliland and Dorothy Footitt announce 27 vocations will be discussed with three career choices for students. Eslinger Hickey Wedding Vows Exchanged Saturday Night

Miss Marla Jean Eslinger and Alan K. Hickey wed at York Baptist Church in Thomson in a 7:00 PM ceremony officiated by Rev. Emer Grafft. A moss green motifs reception followed in the church basement. The couple, both York Community High School alumni, will honeymoon before Alan completes his Army duty.

Thomson siblings survive shotgun accident at Thomson home

In River View about 30 miles north of Timothy Schoenig two teens faced a close call when a single shot 410 shotgun discharged while Tim Heavilin tried to clear a jam. The shell peppered Nancy Heavilin in the back and arm. she was treated at Savanna City Hospital and sent home after recovery begins. Tim, shaken, hopes to remain away from hunting. The siblings, Nancy 14 and Tim 15, are Thomson High students and children of Donald and Mrs. Heavilin.

Thomson Woman's Club Met Thursday In School Cafeteria

The Thomson Woman's Club met on Thursday evening October 5 in the school cafeteria with 44 members and guests. The group voted to contribute $15 to the Thomson Mardi Gras and announced Lincoln note paper sales for the Illinois 150th anniversary drive. Four members attended the Carroll County Fall Conference at Oakville Country Club. Mrs. Carroll won the door prize. Hostesses were Mrs. Eugene Murray Mrs. Frank Potter and Mrs. Leonard Stage. A seventeen year old Chicago youth escaped from the Illinois Youth Commission near Savanna and was recaptured near Lanark on Route 64 after a short pursuit.

Achievement Night Weighs In York Cedar and Cedarettes

On Friday night October 6 1967 the York Cedar and Cedarettes held Achievement Night with a pot luck supper at 6 30. Cheryl Hook and Dwayne Hook introduced the 1966 67 officers. Lois Hartman Lawrence Bruckner Kevan Reader and Kara Grim gave talks on state 4 H Week leadership conference trip to Colorado and ice cream. Earl Gilliland and Dorothy Footitt handed out awards and announced new officers for 1967 68.
