Insecticide Use Tips From Carroll County Extension Group
Rural Thomson resident Ed Hook of the Carroll County Extension Soils and Crops committee emphasizes technique in insect control. Application method matters as much as chemical choice, with a seven inch planting band ahead of the press wheel being recommended. Safety gear and label reading are stressed by Extension Adviser Harold Brinkmeier as essential precautions. Recommended rootworm insecticides include Furadan Buxten Diazinon seed treatments and several other products at about one pound per acre, with older sod stands calling for Aldrin or Heptachlor broadcast use.
