May Revive Packet Boats on Mississippi River

Revival of passenger service on the upper Mississippi may begin with a trial trip this month as the Golden Eagle, owned by Eagle Packet Co, sails round trip between St Louis and St Paul. If successful, regular service could follow with Clinton likely to see the vessel June 23 or 24. The river’s improved depth due to nine foot waterway dams promises scenic trips along green shores and cliffs, reviving a prior era of packet operation once led by Captain Walter Blair and the Streckfus line. Mrs Veneta Hicks is visiting Davenport today.
