The conversation highlights practical farming math and decision making.

Lend-Lease Aids Farm Machinery With Small Price Rise

The President's thirteenth report shows under 8 percent of U.S. farm machinery production went to Lend-Lease from March 11, 1941, to November 1, 1943. Allied need rose as Allied forces expanded airfields and farms, with marsh reclamation and land use boosted, while Britain and Australia repurposed machinery for war. By end of 1943 wholesale prices rose about 2 percent from 1942, and retail staples increased roughly 3.5 percent, a smaller rise than since 1940 per Frances Perkins.

Food Price Adjustments Post Office Diet Cost Rises Likely

New price changes from the Office of Price Administration aim to adjust food costs due to wage pressures. The reforms cover canned and frozen fruits and vegetables, jams and pickles, apple products, and related items. Increases are capped at a cent for most items and as little as a penny per pound for some frozen fruits. Civilians may see higher prices for tomatoes, peas, beans, corn, peaches, and pears.
