In Mt. Carroll circuit court last Thursday Judge Harry E. Wheat ruled the 1948 hospital transfers involving Mayor Rhene B. Law and his wife Natalie were null and void under an Illinois statute. Memorial service for Earl Freeman planned in Mt Carroll
Memorial services for Earl Freeman yeoman second class grandson of Mr and Mrs W F Schreiner of Chadwick will be held at 230 pm Sunday March 12 at the Lutheran church in Mt Carroll. The navy sailor served since September 1942 and was born July 28 1929. Surviving are his parents grandparents a sister Lucile and three brothers Lloyd Arthur and Kenneth.

Wounded War Hero Sgt William Doty Recovers in Italy
Relatives in Savanna were notified that Sgt. William L. Doty was wounded January 30 in Italy for the second time. A bullet pierced his helmet and lodged in his neck, but he is reported to be recovering satisfactorily in a hospital. Doty was first wounded in October 1949 and received a Purple Heart, awarded last week to his sister Mrs Harold Hatfield of Savanna.

Mrs. Mildred Garner Dies at Lanark After Illness
Mrs. Mildred Bowers Garner, 28, died Friday at her Lanark home after a long illness. Funeral held Sunday at Lanark Church of the Brethren with Rev. H. F. Richards officiating. Burial in Lanark cemetery. Born March 21, 1905, she was married Dec. 27, 1923, to John Garner. Survivors include her husband two sons Dayton and Donald, and her brother Chester Bowers in Florida.

The county tire rationing panel warns March grade 1 tire quota is only 124, with over 300 applications on hand and more expected. Only direct war effort, public health, or safety needs will be considered, and even grade 3 tires may be unavailable. Habeas petition denied in Pontiac prisoner case
Ger ald Madden, inmate at Illinois state penitentiary in Pontiac, filed a writ of habeas corpus in circuit court. Judge George C. Dixon in Mt. Carroll heard the petition Monday and denied issuance of the writ. Madden said he was sentenced March 18, 1924 for larceny and sought release by directing the Pontiac warden to free him.

The March grand jury returned three true bills at the opening session of the March term of circuit court. Indictments allege Palfrey driving while intoxicated, Clapton neglecting to provide for a child, and Shaw larceny. Palfrey pled guilty and was fined 100 dollars plus costs and placed on probation. Bail was set for Clapton at 500 dollars and for Shaw at 100 dollars. both are jailed. Additional cases set for hearing include Risak vs Caldwell and several appeals and motions with dates in March.
