In a local election the two incumbents Cliff Dykstra and Gene Halfman were returned to the school board. They faced challengers Yvonne McGinty and Philip Brach with vote counts Dykstra 115 Halfman 104 Brach 40 McGinty 65 and two write in votes. A Thomson Women's Club group attended a County Women’s Club meeting in Savanna where Brockett Bates presented Lincoln films and commentary.

Funeral Services Monday for Mrs Ellen Alspaugh

Services were held Monday at Bosma Funeral Home Fulton for Mrs Ellen Alspaugh who died Saturday at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. Born November 11, 1890 in Warren Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Augustus and Caroline Swanson Johnson. Survived by son David in Glen Ellyn and daughter Roberta Buttel in Fulton, four grandchildren.

Lawrence and Nancy Bruckner Win Second at District Science Fair

Lawrence and Nancy Bruckner, a brother and sister science team, earned a second award for their project The Effects of Magnetism on Plants at the District Science Fair in Sycamore held last Saturday. Lawrence chaired the Northern Illinois Science District meeting and presided over the chairman election, congratulating Jean ie Shull on her victory. He will advance to the State Science Fair in Champaign as a state office candidate.

FFA Members Earn DeKalb Corn Awards at Banquet

DeKalb corn awards honored Thomson and Marengo FFA members for top overall scores in a seven year DeKalb contest emphasizing costs and management. Randall Dykstra and Sherman Ashby led Thomson with perfect 100s while Kenneth Dykstra posted the lowest cost per bushel. Twelve area schools attended the banquet where film strips on management were shown.

Roy Green retires after 40 years with Wisconsin Electric Power

Roy Green retires April 1 after four decades at Wisconsin Electric Power Company where he rose from wireman to superintendent of power supply. He and his wife own a Wheeler Lake cottage in Nicolet forest and plan to winter in the south. Green will work part time as a consultant to set up a Main Coordination Center in Chicago for Midwest utilities.

Marion Stricklin 58 died in Savannah City hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services Friday at 1 30 p m at Law Jones funeral home Savannah with burial in Savannah Township cemetery. He was WWII veteran born May 30 1907 in Lawton Oklahoma. Surviving are two stepdaughters a stepson and many grandchildren. Feather Frolic Lights Up Gym With Pillow Fight Fun

The Feather Frolic, billed as the World's Largest Pillow Fight, is set for Saturday night in the old school gym. High School Musicians Compete in Ashton Saturday

Thomson Community School will compete in State Solo and Ensemble Contest at Ashton on Saturday. Varsity band parents are encouraged to attend. Instrumental soloists include Arleta Wilt, Arlyn Holesinger, Lawrence Bruckner. Ensembles feature multiple quartets and trios with numerous students participating.
