The Chadwick Woman's club will hold its annual Music Day next Thursday afternoon April 11 at the First Lutheran church. Mrs. Leo Schwing of Mt. Carroll will prepare the program. It will be guest day, and each member may invite a guest.
Fire at 10 30 a m destroyed the Helle Lumber mill and warehouse on Route 8 0 near Chestnut Park. Owners Walter and Sheldon Helle estimate losses at 12 000 to 15 000 with partial insurance. Fire started in the southwest part of the mill, discovered by workers piling lumber, and spread in high winds due to limited water. The mill, 604 by 26 feet, and 12 by 16 foot warehouse burned within 30 minutes. equipment including a 900 electric saw and 10 000 feet of lumber were lost. Both brothers suffered minor burns while aiding two large motors. The brothers plan to rebuild as material becomes available amid growth in business.
Grand jurors from Morrison Lyndon and surrounding areas were drawn for the April term to report on Monday. Judge Elwyn Shaw will preside on April 15 with cases expected to be investigated over three or four days. Petit jurors from Sterling Lyndon Morrison Prophetstown Rock Falls were notified to report April 22.

The trucking firm of Rick and Popkins has rented the small building adjoining Dr A A Calkins office, securing adjacent space to press operations.
The last concrete for the viaduct floor on the Milwaukee Route 80 line at Savanna was poured Tuesday. After a 20 day cure, the head of the contracting firm expects the structure to open to traffic in the week of April 21.

Mt Carroll firefighters were called to the Greison estate farm in We land township at 6 15 A M Friday. The blaze damaged the house for an estimated 100 dollars and was attributed to a faulty bedding Ilyir 1 gainet a tove pipe na toreroon The farm is tenanted by the Ray Knutsen family.

A small sum between 10 and 15 dollars was taken from a cash drawer in the Chadwick Elevator after burglars broke in Friday night. Investigators noted broken windows and pry marks at several local shops including Handel Implement, Straub Carpentry, and a feed mill, but nothing else was reported missing. Sheriff Eber Shepherd was notified as proprietors surveyed the damage and attempted entries.
The Black Oak Grange held its monthly public dance on March 27 and drew a large crowd. In the square dance contest prizes went to Ben and Mrs Frederick Dick and Mrs Schreiner Elwyn and Mrs Wolf Orval and Mrs Bousman all of Milledgeville. Clinton Iowa hosted a duck calling contest last Friday night with judges Thomson hunters Robert Lewis Wayne Groharing and Joe Bennett. Eleven contestants from five Iowa communities competed in the event sponsored by Clinton County chapter Isaak Walton league of America. Robert C Echelbarger 17 of Clinton won top honors.
Savanna's American Legion post has purchased a property at Chicago Avenue and Fourth Street to serve as a Legion home. The post plans to remodel the acquired building after current tenants move out.
