Boston Wins Seaplane Base Status and Expansion Plan
The bill includes 11500 for a Boston Harbor geodetic survey and dredging to create a 1500 foot wide 12 foot deep seaplane channel from Shirley Gut to the East Boston airport. Dredged material will expand the airport field. current 2600 foot runway to be lengthened to at least 4500 for a Class A rating. Work likely August or September, lasting 3 to 4 years. Boston credited to Maritime Group Port Authority and yacht clubs. Commodore George J. Hamilton helped press the case in Washington.
