No School at Lone Grove Amid Bond Debts
Lone Grove will have no school this year as the district owes 8000 dollars in bond interest and about 1500 in warrants. No special school tax was voted, and the district must use all collected taxes to cover debt payments, leaving nothing for teachers or fuel. The problem stems from surrounding lands owned by original allottees who refuse to pay taxes.

Wild Dove Interrupts Dedicatory Mass at St. Aloysius
In Spokane on Columbus Day a wild dove flew into St. Aloysius Catholic Church as Bishop Edward J. O'Dea led a procession of visiting bishops and 80 acolytes. The bird sought shelter in the rafters, prompting explanations from Father P J Arthurs about how it entered. The dedication included a high mass, sermons, and a banquet, in a church 190 by 110 by 124 feet with two 164 foot spires, built for about 180000 dollars without site cost. The structure, completed in less than two years, seats 1100 with 250 more in the gallery and is praised as among the most modern in the intermountain region. The article ends with a local ad for new furs at The Golden Rule.

Lorimer Inquiry Probes Blair Motives and Debts Amid Testimony
In Chitagm on October 17 the Lorimer investigation committee in Washington established that former representative William C. Blair was in Olney Illinois on July 1 1909 near Thomas Tippit's home while he had previously sworn he was in Mount Vernon Illinois. Blair admitted campaign debts of 1500 to 2000 and drew his entire legislative salary before February 19 1909 and later held 1000 in cash. He faced questions about a Centralia ball game, fees from safe blowers, and possible payments from the state auditor in January and February 1909. Blair acknowledged debt and questioned the timing of funds as the committee pressed details of his finances and alleged outside aid.
