A group of about fifteen imported strike breakers near Illinois Central sheds were attacked by a mob on Front and Irondale Streets, leaving one Brooklyn, N Y, man seriously wounded and US Deputy Marshal Nicklas Johns wounded in the hand. Tin Plates Show Heavy Decrease In Imports
Washington reports tin plate imports into the United States during August and July 1911 fell to 1,184,983 pounds valued at 47,890 dollars from 2,332,269 pounds valued at 990,227 in the prior year. Exports rose to about 2 million pounds, while domestic production increased due to higher foreign prices. The shift is attributed to price increases abroad and substitution of domestic tin plate for foreign supply in canning and export manufacturing.
