Defense of Dr. Wiley fuels pure food debate
The long quarrel over benzoate of soda and food adulteration centers on Dr. Wiley. Advocates say the push to remove him is a tactic by canning interests to profit from spoiled waste. Wiley has fought violators for decades, earning broad support among the public and officials who fear a political misstep by ousting him.

Sapulpa Paper Must Wear Muzzle
Sapulpa Okla July 21 The rule is to remain on the Daily Star for columns about the court record of minors affairs by Bates Burnett banker and city figure. Special Judge Preston Davis of Vinita held court in Wade Stanfield's absence and denied a petition to vacate the injunction while allowing amendment. The Star editors protested the ruling as editors. The judge showed unusual restraint and did not discuss higher court precedents. Precluding publication of court records by injunction is new in the judicial realm and affects all editors and news publishers.

State Board to Raise Valuations Near Fifty Percent
Oklahoma City reports the state board of equalization will raise county valuations by about 50 percent, adopting a lump sum farm land valuation method and permitting county officials to reallocate raises within townships. The final total cannot be altered by county boards. Attorney General West said any contrary provision would be unconstitutional. The board compared farm and deeded land values, and 1908 appraisements, aiming to restore the 1908 standard. Logan and other counties faced scrutiny over underassociation of values, with several counties presenting varying methods and baselines for valuation.
