Reciprocity Bill Shapes Next Presidential Campaign
Washington observers weigh how the Senate passage of the reciprocity bill will influence the 1909 campaign. Taft gains credit for victory but faces Republican dissent over the tariff measure, with many GOP senators voting to avoid a split that could aid Democrats.
