Academy asks council to delay approval for Progress Drive sidewalks

At a Monday work session the Academy urged delaying action until sidewalks are installed on Progress Drive and asked for three road exceptions. An extension of Progress Drive by about 500 feet, a 30 foot street width matching current progress, and ending the street at a hammerhead with stub intersections instead of a cul de sac are proposed. A future road planned north and south would connect to an East West Connector, with the academy fronting the future road. The Planning Commission backed the street alignment exceptions but not sidewalk or lighting exceptions. Council consideration is set for 7 p.m. at the Warren County Government Center.

County budget shortfall prompts 65 cent tax rate proposal

County officials project a 102.8 million revenue year with 74.6 million spending. A 0.03 increase to 65 cents per 100 would raise about 1.2 million, boosting public service taxes from Dominion Power and other sources. 2.5 percent COLA is planned. 0.5 percent departmental cuts and outside agency funding reviews are proposed to cover the gap. A public hearing is set for April 11 with a final adoption on April 18.
