Front Royal teen could face adult court over stabbing death
In Front Royal a 17-year-old charged with second degree murder in Leah Marie Adams 19 was stabbed to death. The juvenile may be tried as an adult if the case moves to Warren County Circuit Court. The boy is held without bond as authorities seek transfer. The Commonwealths Attorney Bri an Madden confirmed the move plan to INSIDE Father recalls Leahs spirit. The Front Royal county board approved advertising a 3-cent real estate tax hike to raise the rate to 65 cents per $100 of assessed value. The move aims to close a roughly $3.4 million shortfall in the FY2018 budget. With Tony Carter and Dan Murray absent, the three present supervisors unanimously passed the budget at a special meeting. A property valued at $200,000 would face a $60 increase, bringing the annual bill to about $1,300.

Town Real Estate Tax Rate Raised by Half Cent
After weeks of belt-tightening talks the Front Royal town council voted to raise the real estate tax rate by half a cent to 13.5 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value. The $55,000 increase will be set aside for the future police headquarters at Kendrick Lane and Monroe Avenue. Earlier in the month the council held the rate at 13 cents on first reading and then debated the measure further.

Third graders learn botany from Master Gardeners
Third graders at Hilda J. Barbour Elementary School in Front Royal explored germination pollination propagation and the plant life cycle during an in school field trip with about 15 Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardeners. Lynn Hoffmann described it as a pilot to teach the circle of life and emphasize bees role in pollination. Without bees many foods would vanish including apples mangos sunflowers and avocados.
