Budget impasse hits local funding and bridge costs in Virginia

County official warns the stalled two year state budget endangers social services and court salaries funded by the Department of Social Services and Compensation Board. The board notes a $14 million reserve could cover six months of salaries and possibly aid schools. VDOT lists three bridge projects totaling about 89 million dollars, with completion hopes ranging 2014 to 2017. Local leaders urge budget passage to avoid tax and service cuts as state revenue shortfalls loom.
