Shankey and Son Sentenced in Arson Trials

Samuel H Shankey and his son James were found guilty of arson in Bergland. Judge George O Driscoll sentenced Samuel to up to ten years with two minimum, and James to up to ten years with seven and a half years minimum, at hard labor. The case marks Ontonagon County's first arson conviction in decades amid a history of prior court appearances by the Shankeys.

A civil service examination for the Wakefield post office clerk position was announced for July 19 by the civil service commission. Applicants age 18 to 45 may obtain blanks from local postmaster A. M. Gilbert and file by July 5. The Wakefield office was recently raised from third to second class.
