Deported Alien Inmates Under New State Law
The legislature approved a program to repatriate alien criminals and dependents to their homelands, funded at 25,000 per biennium. Officials say about 2,500 aliens are in state institutions, 621 inmates and 335 on parole, with hospitals housing 1,839 aliens. Repatriation costs are far lower than continued welfare and incarceration, and no pressure will be applied to noncompliant individuals.
