Bridgeman Russell Co. gains permit for Verona building moves

The Bridgeman Russell Company of Duluth leasing Verona school property received a city permit to remodel for truck storage and loading at an estimated cost of 5000 dollars. Local labor will fill most of the payroll with two outsiders after completion. The project follows cooperation among the chamber, school board, and city officials.

Magnar Council 2849 Names Officers for New Term

In Columbus Magnar Council No 2849 officers were reelected with Rev Thomas A Drengacz as Chaplain and Clarence T Negri as Grand Knight. Dr J Robert Franck was elected trustee. all others were re elected except trustee for three years. Also noted Miami University 109th commencement graduate David Trezise plans Navy or law study. City Charter Revision Committee Named by Mayor

Mayor R F Cloon named a nine member citizens committee to study charter changes. The group includes Victor Lepisto Irving L Voyer Howard Anderson Clarence Jacobson J Claude Bedell H L Trezise A J Moran Gust E Seppa and William Kuivinen all connected to local government and business groups. The panel will serve without pay and report for possible amendments to be presented to voters at the August election.

Wakefield Plans Zoning Edict and City Projects

Wakefield officials publish the proposed zoning ordinance for public view before adoption. The commission approves buying tile for sewer lines from Laird Lumber Co, with bids from three suppliers and delivery estimates ranging from three weeks to three months. They cap at 600 for pipe lengths and set gravel sand pricing at 25 cents a yard with owners supplying trucks. The cemetery lot price increase stands and Mary Johns remedy concerns over deed issuance. Tourists at the city party will pay 25 cents a night for electric light and power with meters installed after a deposit at city hall. City pumpmen collect daily fees.

Former Lutheran Pastor Nilho Korhonen Dies in California

The Rev. Nilho Korhonen, former pastor of the Finnish Lutheran church here, died June 11 at Fort Bragg California. Born in Finland in 1889 he came to the United States in 1913 and served missions in China before leading Fort Bragg and Wakefield churches. He retired to California and is survived by his wife and two brothers including the Rev. Arvo J. Korhonen.

VFW Show at Wakefield Faces Real Life Drama in Korea

The cast of The First Year touring Korea during a VFW engagement near Wakefield endured riots and gunfire in Taegu. Actors and actresses were separated, escorted to safety by jeep convoys, while Mr and Mrs Livingston and Mr Sheppard’s group were confined with armed guards and ammunition.
