Railroad Wins in Niemi Suit in Marquette Court

A Marquette county jury returned a verdict of no cause for action in favor of Theodore Niemi as administrator for the Mae Niemi estate against the Duluth South Shore and Atlantic Railroad. The suit sought 20000 for damages from Mae Niemi’s death in a 1924 Marquette auto train collision. Attorneys Ivan D. Wright and L F Garvin represented the estate. verdict may be appealed to the state supreme court.

Making of the Flag and Commencement at Wakefield High

Masons Shrine Picnics Planned at Eddy Park

Masonic societies and Shrine members from Gogebic and upper peninsula plan picnics at Eddy Park in June and July. Monday’s annual school election is expected to be a formality with no challengers to Dr. T A Tres sel for Board of Education. Voters will approve only funds for new buildings or bond issues. no new building project is planned this year. Dr John Wargelin of the Finnish Lutheran Church of Duluth has been unanimously chosen to lead the Wakefield church, with expected charge beginning September 1. He arrives after successful tenure at Suomi College Hancock and service in Republic Michigan and northern Minnesota, and is noted as a skilled translator and musician.

Equipment Here for Clark Shaft Project

Several shipments of hoisting equipment for the new Clark shaft at the Sunday Lake Iron Co. were received this week and are being unloaded. The hoists will serve the engine house and timber exit at the old Brotherton outlet on the property. The current shaft will be used for ore hoisting when the new shaft is ready. Construction is expected to start shortly.

Wakefield Loses to Winegar in Opening Baseball Tilt

Wakefield dropped its season opener last Sunday as Winegar overwhelmed the Wakefield pitchers and held the locals scoreless the visitors pounded the mound. A rematch is set for next Sunday at Winegar as Wakefield learners plan adjustments hoping for a reversal.
