Wakefield Iron Plans to Load 80 000 Tons
The Wakefield Iron company will enter active shipping today or Monday with ore shipments from stock in the pit. Contracts unofficially call for 80,000 tons, about one third of ore in stock. Last shipment from Wakefield mine was in 1931. Go Gebic range July ore totaled 469,709 tons, versus 5,568 last July. Lake Superior district July shipments reached 3,430,785 tons, up 436 percent from last July’s 639,884. Season totals to August 1 show Gogebic range shipments at 589,804 vs 179,914 last year, with rail shipments in Lake Superior at 5,695,798 tons, up from 1,028,340, an increase of 453.88 percent.

Father and Son Drown in Montreal River Tragedy
Edward Exworthy aged 50 and his 11 year old son Robert drowned Sunday afternoon in the Montreal river below the Oliver pumping station. Sam, Robert’s twin, narrowly escaped. Jack Exworthy witnessed the tragedy. A H Buell and Marjorie Palmer recovered the elder Exworthy, while Charles Kravatz recovered the boy. Artificial respiration was attempted at the scene and both bodies were sent to Grand View hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
