Center's Light Fades for Elkton Child Care After 18 Years
Lighthouse Children's Center in Elkton faces closure due to finances despite serving as many as 88 children yearly. The center, opened in 2009 in a church building, operates 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and now serves 18 children, including nine preschoolers, seven part time. Morris notes parent alternatives and local school care siphon away demand while United Methodist Church support totaling about 20,000 last year remains insufficient.
