Massanutten Peak park fundraiser underway in Rockingham County
Rockingham County launches a $25 million fundraising campaign for the Albert Long Park a 65 acre site north of U S 33 and west of Indian Trail Road. A $10 000 donation from Merck kicked off efforts in February with plans to sell a 10 acre commercial lot on U S 33 to raise funds. Shenandoah changes town elections to November 2016
At its March 24 meeting the Shenandoah Town Council approved moving town elections from May to November 2016 and extending council terms to December 31 2016. An incentive zone ordinance was adopted for business expansion and location. The council also adopted ordinances setting the 2015 town tax.

Shenandoah Town Council Updates Noise Ordinance and Rates
Following a joint Planning Commission and Town Council hearing Shenandoah repealed Division 1 of its noise ordinance and adopted a new provision to set sound levels using a meter on complaints. The council authorized a $609.98 purchase for a sound level meter and calibrator for police enforcement. Enterprise rates for Personal Property and Machinery and Tools remained at 40 cents and 31 cents per $100. A consolidation request for Amanda Filder and Randy Dearing parcels 16-19 and 30-33 was approved for a new home at 270 Massanutten Ave. Frazier Quarry donated 60 tons of gravel for town projects and residents will receive gravel hauled to their homes at no charge.

Creativity carries DI teams into finals at Spotswood High
Six eastern Rockingham County teams advance to the Destination Imagination Global Finals after top placings at Spotswood High School. Peak View Elementary teams led with Squishy Piggies and Ferocious Fear Fighters winning first, Popping Pineapples and Penguins Go Boom taking second with Spotswood High's CHARJED. Elkton Middle School's BOTS placed third. State tournament director Louise Liddle calls Destination Imagination a mental Olympics as about 4,000 attendees and 170 teams showcased creative solutions.

Proposed budget raises taxes in Harrisonburg Rockingham
The proposed fiscal 2016 budget to the Board of Supervisors envisions a total of 341.5 million dollars, up about 10 million from the current year. It includes a 4 cent real estate tax increase in two 2 cent steps and a 5 cent rise in personal property tax to fund a larger 2016 budget beginning July 1, with state aid projected at 17.4 million dollars.
