Lynnwood Farm Sheds Light On Stonewall Jackson Victory Site
The Lynnwood property near the Shenandoah River, once a Civil War battlefield at Port Republic, is highlighted for its historic ties to Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson and the Valley Campaign of 1862. Preservation leaders credit Gerald and Anita Heatwole for enabling protection of key battlefield lands and riparian buffers along the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. More than 1,100 Union and 800 Confederate soldiers were killed or wounded at Port Republic.
