Easement Approved at Port Republic Battlefield
The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation secured a 424 acre conservation easement on the Port Republic battlefield known as the Lynnwood Farm between the Shenandoah River and U S 340. Funded in part by the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program, the $1.35 million purchase with Cub Run Farm LC marks the foundation's largest preservation project in 14 years and protects a significant portion of the historic site where Gen. Grant and Civil War actions occurred. Keven Walker calls the deal a major victory for protecting hallowed ground at The Coaling and near Grace Memorial Episcopal Church.

Four generations of Cynthia Gray’s family gathered at Massanutten Resort in McGaheysville for a Christmastime break nearing New Year’s. About 2,000 of the resort’s 2,500 units were booked for the holiday as families swarmed the ice rink, water park, and snow tubing. Cynthia Gray, 51, said the trip offered a nontraditional holiday, with relatives arriving Saturday and departing today. Mary Reid noted families staying long and a Fathead wall decoration spotted in one suite.
